IIT Delhi: IIT Delhi has taken a tremendous initiative – Manasvi: STEM Mentorship Program – the main objective of which is to empower young schoolgirls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Introduction

Have you ever wondered why the number of girls in STEM fields is still low? IIT Delhi hosted Manasvi: STEM Mentorship Program between 13-17 May 2025 to bridge this gap. 100 schoolgirls, mainly from government and public schools of Delhi-NCR, are part of this programme. This program was designed to give them exposure, guidance, and confidence so they can pursue STEM careers

Key Features and Activities

  • Inspiring Lectures & Panel Discussions:
    The program started with the address of Professor Rangan Banerjee (Director, IIT Delhi).She motivated the girls that how STEM careers can make their ideas useful for society.
  • Expert Talks:
    Nozomu Hagiwara (social activist), Dr. S. Arulselvi (JPNATC), Dr. Urvashi Yadav (AIIMS), and Dr. Lily Khosa (IITD Hospital) shared her experiences – highlighted resilience, mental strength, and science’s link to public health..
  • Hands-On Learning:
    Under the guidance of Professor Jai Dhariwal, the girls assembled solar lamps in the Makerspace Lab. The activity gave them the joy of practical engineering and also gave them the confidence to create a functional product.
  • Bonding & Peer Learning:
    Informal sessions were also held every day, where student volunteers from IIT Delhi helped the girls open up, share their aspirations, and move out of their comfort zone.
  • Career Insights from ISRO Scientist:
    The program ended with an inspiring keynote address by Dr. Ritu Karidhal (ISRO Scientist, “Rocket Woman of India”). Share your space mission experience and encourage young girls to dream big too.

CSR Support & Future Plans

  • Bharti Airtel Foundation sponsored 25 students, and partners like Ratna Sagar also contributed to the success of the program.
  • The next phases of the program have also been planned for October and December 2025, which will benefit more girls.

Conclusion

Manasvi: STEM Mentorship Program, IIT Delhi’s flagship initiative, not only provides academic exposure, but also makes girls feel that they are an integral part of the STEM world. Practical workshops, expert mentorship, and inspiring talks have given these schoolgirls skills, confidence, and a new vision. Such programs will reduce the gender gap and produce STEM leaders from India.
